AZ Coalition Against Domestic Violence needs summer intern

Both the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Beauty Changes Lives are seeking an event planning/non-profit intern. The internship is part time totaling 20 hours (or increased around specific events) per week shared between two non-profit agencies, The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence (AzCADV) as well as Beauty Changes Lives.

Details per each agency duties and tasks are listed below. This is a great opportunity for any student interested in gaining experience in non-profit event planning and fundraising, as well as gaining an overall perspective for working in the non-profit sector. Both agencies are flexible with scheduling. The internship will run from May through August will work with the summer schedule of a student and will require onsite help at the gala in September for AzCADV.


Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence The mission of the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence (AzCADV) is to lead, to advocate, to educate, to collaborate, to end domestic violence in Arizona. AzCADV is based in Arizona and has significant, statewide presence. We are a non-governmental, non-profit membership organization that works with more than 170 formal members and allies to carry out our mission and objectives.



The AzCADV provides:

  • Education and training about domestic violence
  • Expert consultation and support to advocates and programs
  • Legal advocacy and information for victims, family, and concerned individuals
  • Policy advocacy at the Capitol and to various committees and more

This portion of the internship will total 10 hours per week (increased hours around specific events) working with the Development and Communications Manager (DCM) of AzCADV primarily on their large fundraising event, the Thrive Gala and Awards dinner held September 18, 2013 which includes a 250+ guest list, awards ceremony, seated dinner and various raffles and silent auction items. The intern would also help with other small fundraising events throughout the summer. An ideal candidate must have great organization skills and interpersonal people skills. The office is located in downtown Phoenix.
Internship tasks include:

  • Preparation for the annual Thrive Gala
  • Planning of gala and other fundraising activities
  • On-site assistance to the DCM at events
  • All other tasks assigned by the DCM

BeautyChangesLivesBeauty Changes Lives (BCL), established by the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS), is a non-profit initiative designed to raise awareness of how careers in the beauty and wellness industry transform lives both personally and professionally.
Entry-level opportunity for growth and development in the non-profit sector. Must have great customer service, strong organizational skills and a working knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be reliable and have own transportation (office located in north Scottsdale, AZ). Opportunity for stipend depending on intern’s experience. Part time position working 10 hours per week with occasional need of increased hours around association events. Flexible scheduling.

Tasks and duties within the Beauty Changes Lives portion will include:

  • Promotion and follow up of national scholarship program
  • Promotion and preparation for national convention
  • Maintaining membership records
  • Clerical support of non-profit
  • Opportunity to handle special projects independently
